Little Moonbeamsopened it's doors to the children for the very first time in October 2008 and Baby Moonbeamsopened in September 2009. Both settings offer the highest level of care to children from the age of three months up to five years.
As parents and carers we all know that a child's early years are the most formative and childhood is an extremely precious time. Our objective at Little Moonbeams & Baby Moonbeams is to allow each individual child the opportunity to explore and develop at their own pace within a carefully planned and stimulating environment.
Please view our Ofsted reports on the following links:
"All children are valued within the setting and settle well due to the staff's good understanding of each child's individual needs". Ofsted - March 2009
"The nursery has a strong regard for the safety and welfare of the children they are caring for".Ofsted - October 2012
The welfare of your child placed in our care is of paramount importance to us and we appreciate the huge decision that is made by parents and carers when considering if nursery care is right for your family. Finding the right setting for your child is of equal importance and great care has been taken to ensure Little Moombeams & Baby Moonbeams offer a home from home environment, allowing children to feel safe, happy and entirely comfortable. Our rooms are bright and stimulating and we offer excellent resources and equipment to aid your child's learning and development.
Moonbeams Day Nurseries are owned by Vicky Martin who qualified in Nursery Nursing in 1994. Vicky is a mother to her 9 year old twins, Callum and Olivia. Little Moonbeams was Vicky's first business and one that she had dreamed of opening for many years. She opened a second setting in September 2009 in Sittingbourne, Baby Moonbeams, whichexpanded further in September 2011. Vicky is supported by Harriet Palmer, the Setting Manager at Faversham and Karen Woodward, the Setting Manager at Sittingbourne, with 24 additional excellent members of staff. All staff have been fully CRB checked and are first aid trained. Staff attend training sessions throughout the year to keep up to date with changes in legislation and welfare requirements and several members of staff are mothers and grandmothers themselves.
A strong 'Key Person' system is used throughout both nurseries. Each child is allocated a Key Person who carries out your child's day to day care and offers them the individual support and stimulation they need. They observe your child as they learn and play and plan every week for their next stage of development. The Key Person will work closely with you as parents and carers and will personally hand your child back to you at the end of their session with an update of their daily activities as well as information about how much they have eaten, slept (if relevant) and for the younger children, what their toileting activities have been!
The key person will invite you to join them for a 'Development Update' at least once every twelve months to discuss your child's individual development and progress and to look at your child's Learning Journey record. However, this file can be taken home for your enjoyment at any time.
Your child's progress will be carefully monitored throughout their nursery career by their key person from each room. We use a system specifically developed by Kent County Council called 'Progress Matters' to ensure that all children within our care are developing to thier full potential. This system tracks your child's individual development inline with the EYFS curriculum (Early Years Foundation Stage) for young children. This information enables staff to give children extra support where it is needed and also extend their learning where strengths are developing.
If your child's Key Person is on holiday or unwell they will be cared for by the Key Persons 'buddy' - this system is used throughout the nursery.
Before your child joins us at Little Moonbeams or Baby Moonbeams they will be invited to come in for some 'Taster Sessions' to ensure that they are entirely settled before they start. You are not charged for these sessions as they are tailored to meet your child's individual needs.
When your child starts attending our nurserywe will create a 'Learning Journey' for them. This will consist of information provided by you as their primary carer and we will begin to build a record of the time your child spends within our care as they grow and develop. You will be invited to contrubute to this record as we work together to ensure your child's needs are being met at all times.
NURSERY OUTINGS - All of the children are taken out of the nursery on local visits (with parents consent). We go on local walks within the community, to the duck pond, garden centres and into town. The children from the Faversham Nursery regularly visit the soft play centre at The Jubilee Centre - Faversham. The Pre-School children have also been on some very exciting coach journeys to Farming World, Faversham and The Faversham Gun Powder Works.
SAFETY & SECURITY - Children's safety is of paramount importance to us at Little Moonbeams & Baby Moonbeams. At Faversham both of our entrance doors (the front for Pre-School and the rear for Babies and Toddlers) are fitted with an electronic entry system and the garden is fitted with a CCTV system. At Sittingbourne the nursery can only be accessed from the inside by staff.
EARLY YEARS FOUNDATION STAGE
At Little Moonbeams & Baby Moonbeams we will work to the statutory framework set by the Department for Education and Skills known as the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS). This strategy outlines that 'Every child deserves the best possible start in life and support to fulfill their potential' and the EYFS has been put in place to provide that assurance for parents and carers of children from birth to five years.
